“How does Shakespeare represent Macbeth’s deteriorating mind”?
In William Shakespeare’s Macbeth the main character (Macbeth) is at first a proud man who is sure of himself and is a renowned brave soldier. After winning a battle the he is approached by three witches who prophesize that he will become the Thane of Cawdor and more importantly the King of Scotland “All hail, Macbeth! Hail to thee, Thane of Cawdor,all hail, Macbeth, that shall be king hereafter”. Macbeth’s became uneasy after the first prediction of him becoming Thane of Cawdor came true.
Shakespeare uses Metaphor in Macbeth to show the state that Macbeth is in. In act 2 scene 2 just after they he had murdered king Duncan he used the metaphor “cry, Macbeth does murder sleep” this metaphor means that Macbeth’s mind will never be at ease after killing Duncan and he believes that because of it he will not sleep again, he has “Murdered his sleep”
In Macbeth the metaphysical is used to show Hes state of mind.Lady Macbeth and three witches are two factors into the concept of metaphysics and the represent the darkness in Macbeth’s mind that broke him down and filled him with “deep desires” (act 1 scene4 .”For in my way it lies. Stars, hide your fires” this is metaphysical quote regarding Macbeth and his fate and what his future holds for him in his case becoming King of Scotland. Macbeth wants to defy his fate “Stars,hide your fires”.
